Q. Where do you find inspiration?
A. All sorts of places – in the news, from my own experiences, from friends, eavesdropping, actively talking to people involved in real life in what I am writing about (eg a police officer for a crime story or a doctor for a hospital drama), from novels, films, TV, the internet (for inspiration but not necessarily research), and a lifetime’s work of creative thoughts that have never made it to the screen. If you have an idea write it down – you never know when it will come in useful. And the best place for me to think is away from the computer – on a good long walk, or my preferred option – in the bath.
