Thinking About The Health Of Your Audience Could Be Important |

The relationship between the new media viewing habits of the public and their health have been highlighted in research for pharmaceutical companies. A survey has shown that acne and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) patients are the condition groups most likely to favour watch streaming or downloaded television programs on the internet.
The survey also found that less than half of US adults report that they watch all of their television programmes on their TV set. The survey was carried out by the pharmaceutical and healthcare market research company Manhattan Research. In its Cybercitizen Health v8.0 consumer study and strategic advisory service, it says that the top condition groups watching streamed or downloaded TV programmes on the internet are:
"With television networks partnering with video-sharing websites like YouTube and Hulu and DVR adoption increasing, one thing is clear -- when it comes to media, the consumer is in control,” commented Meredith Abreu Ressi, of Manhattan Research. “For healthcare and pharmaceutical marketers, it's critical to understand how adoption rates and media mix differ by disease group. Brand teams in the know will take advantage of new advertising capabilities to hyper-target desired audiences and give them a customized brand experience." ScreenwritingGoldmine.com’s comment: While the pharmaceutical industry’s interest in this is directly linked to consumer marketing, screenwriters should be aware of the impact on ‘traditional’ TV viewing habits new technology is having. Creating content that will appeal to people with certain health conditions could be an interesting way of choosing greenlights if commissioners start to switch into this way of thinking.
