Use My Exact Template When You Develop Your Stories
If you’ve already downloaded the Screenwriting Goldmine and you’re into developing your story but you’ve never got round to creating your own spreadsheets - or you’re not quite sure what you should be doing at that stage - you might be interested in this little tool.
It’s the spreadsheet I use when I develop a story.
It’s nothing fancy (no automatic story generation or anything like that) but it comes laid out with two separate sheets.
One for all the Goldmine story beats:
And one for you to make notes on all the things I ask you to think about when you are developing your characters:
(I prefilled this character sheet with some examples to show you the sort of thing you should be entering.)
Best Practise
- I always end up completing this spreadsheet and turning it into my beat sheet before I write a script. I highly recommend this as good practise - I completely believe working this way can save you months of your life.
- Download your own copy now for a purely nominal charge of £5.99.
- It currently comes in Microsoft Excel and Open Office format - just download either or both as you wish. (Excel is part of the Microsoft Office suite, but if you don’t have that you can get the free Open Office from www.OpenOffice.org)
- No return policy (it is what it is, a simple labour saving template) but as people use it I see that it might grow and develop. If you see a way of making it more clever do mail me your thoughts, and I’ll send out any updates I make for free to all the people who have downloaded it.
(IMPORTANT: This template probably won’t make much sense if you haven’t already got - and read! - a copy of the Screenwriting Goldmine.)
