Folks,

These "cell" contest exist. I got scammed last year.

Just apply to big/respectable contests and those who have been around for more than 3 years.

Its easy, before you apply, make sure you talk to other folks who have applied to that specific contest. If you can't find these people ....DON'T APPLY...IT'S A SCAM.

For most of these contests, the first and and second year of their business is "shaky"....apply in the their 3rd year if you have to, after talking to at least 5 people who have applied to their contest.

Send me an email at my username@yahoo.com and I can send you the archived web files from their web page. angela black was the contact listed in whois for apoptoticproductions. Though she is also listed as the contact for stepleftpublishing, the sponsor of the contest. My best guess for the scam- since they didn't bother to pay the extra ten bucks for private whois listing- is they held the contest and hoped to make an easy buck off of it. But they didn't get more than $1000 + their investment so they feel entitled to end the contest without living up to it since they didn't make enough money to be satisfied with it. Their website was also a yahoo sponsored account. Which means they didn't pay their bill for the two months before the contest went offline. Since you can't do a nslookup, meaning they hosted and registered the domain with the same company. Either way it still gets under your skin at the end of the day. Especially since shorts can easily be made for free with a little bit of persistence and connections and free beer.

I get it now. The crooks think they're very clever. The took the actual names of researchers from a cancer article on apoptotic whatever. The original contest contact was "A.C. Nolan" and Angela Black is another name they stole. I'm definitely reporting this crime to the Springville, UT police.

Thanks for the information. I will call the Spanish Fork police. But who is Angela Black? Is she a principal of the supposed Apoptotic Prods? And what is the connection to StepLeft Publishing?

The response from Angela Black, the instigator of the scam, was that the producer backed out of the deal and that entrants would be sent back their money. That has not happened for me. The Utah DA said to call the Spanish Fork police and submit a complaint with them. To get their contact info either go to stepleftpublishing.com or the whois registry and lookup apoptoticproductions.com. I felt really stupid though after looking up the address of apoptotic on google maps. It was a UPS store. And then apoptotic means a cancerous cell that is about to die.

It's disheartening to learn that Apoptotic Productions and its screenplay competition is a scam. Did they at least list the quarterfinalists before they skipped town? Do you have that list?

Apoptotic productions is a scam. Their website went offline right after the quarter finalists announcement deadline. Apoptotic is a cell which is bent on short self-destruction. Fancy way of a fly-by-night contest.

We have no comedies at the moment, but I was cruising writing websites and found this one. You really provide a great service for the writing community. I've subscribed to this blog! Thanks!
